The Sommerberg Funicular Railway

The Sommerberg Funicular Railway
What a view ... The Sommerberg funicular is the fastest, most ecologically sound connection between Bad Wildbad’s centre and the favoured destination and residential area of Sommerberg. In less than 10 minutes you can reach a wonderful recreation area at higher altitude.

You will enjoy pure, clear Black Forest air: 300 m. above the valley, from the high plateau of the Sommerberg there are wonderful views of the resort town and the heights of the Black Forest. Up here, warmed by the sun, you can find a variety of fine accommodations. Starting at the mountain station, you can take healthy walks along level ground – and in the winter usually cleared – all the way to the nature sanctuary of Wildsee Moor.

The funicular railway – one of only a few of its kind in Baden-Wurttemberg – was put into use for the first time on 23 May 1908. It runs today daily on the half and whole hour between 6:30 am and 10:30 pm in summer, or until 7:30 pm in the winter.

Regeneration and Recreation

The Sommerberg offers a diverse array of sports and recreational activities in the quiet of the Black Forest landscape. There are several restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy a meal or a snack. One of the favourite open-air restaurants is the "Grünhütte" – the starting point for all strolls and hikes on the Sommerberg.

Winter Sports

Whether you ski downhill on well-groomed slopes or do athletic cross country skiing and ski hiking on well-prepared trails – with 2 ski lifts, flood lights and a cosy ski hut, the Sommerberg offers great recreational winter fun.

Hiking, Walking, Biking

The extensive hiking and biking trails through the high plateau recreational area of the Sommerberg offer endless possibilities to hikers, walkers and bikers. There is even a well-equipped playground near an open grill in the forest and a meadow for resting and picnicking. The bike park holds challenges for the adventurous biker.
